When Hana applied for an internship at OhioMeansJobs Allen County (OMJ), she was looking for more than just experience—she wanted to make a real impact. With a passion for helping others and an interest in workforce development, she saw OMJ as the perfect place to grow while supporting job seekers in the community.
Learning and Growth
From day one, Hana jumped right in, assisting clients in the resource room and over the phone. She quickly picked up valuable skills in professional communication, resume building, and job application support. “Helping clients navigate their job search was so rewarding,” she shares. “I learned how to communicate professionally, solve problems on the spot, and really build confidence in myself.” Beyond the technical skills, Hana also learned how to manage her time and juggle multiple tasks—something she knows will be valuable in any career she pursues.
A New Perspective on Workforce Development
Before this internship, Hana didn’t realize just how important workforce development programs were to the community. “I saw firsthand how much of a difference support services like resume help can make,” she says. “It really opened my eyes to how strong community connections can lead to long-term success for job seekers.”
Advice for Future Interns
For anyone thinking about interning at OMJ, Hana has a few words of wisdom: “Be proactive and open to learning. Strong communication and problem-solving skills will help you, and don’t be afraid to interact with clients. It’s an incredibly supportive environment where you’ll grow both personally and professionally.”
