WLIO Noon Edition – OhioMeansJobs Allen County Veteran Services 11/21/2023
OhioMeansJobs Allen County’s Josh Luke, Business Services Manager, and Kyler Washam, Career Consultant and High School Job Coach, discuss with Hometown Stations the services provided by OhioMeansJobs to local Veterans.
“For Hire A Vet Month (November), it’s really something we like to highlight this month especially, you know let alone year-round of course, but something that we do and prioritize is that Veterans do get priority of service. When somebody is looking for employment, you know maybe it’s coming right out of the military,
or maybe it’s just looking for something years down the road or looking to take that next step in their career, maybe looking for something different – whatever the case may be, we’re here to help [Veterans] in that journey. So, as [Job Seekers] come into the office at our job center, we are always asking everyone and identifying up front if they are a Veteran, and that way we can make sure that they complete the appropriate questionnaire so that we can identify the right representative that is going to be able to help them out the most and then get them to where they need to be.” states Luke.
“I take a lot of joy in being able to help fellow Veterans maybe find a position that actually fits their skill sets that they are bringing out of the military. A lot of Military Veterans do not understand how to translate their military skillset into a civilian skillset, and that’s something we can help with at OhioMeansJobs is getting their military occupation specialty translated for a civilian occupation that matches.” states Washam.
